I have been bound and determined that I will NOT raise city kids who don't know where their food comes from. It's common to find us sitting around the table discussing what animal our bacon once was, or that our hamburger used to moo.
A while back the kids and I went to stay at my sister's house while Aaron was in Chicago. My sister and I were in the kitchen when Princess (aka Jael) came through. This is the conversation that followed.
Princess: (voice very high soft and with a faint British accent)- I'm going to go get my pet turkey. Perhaps if it dies on the way home I can cook it and we can eat it.
Me: (trying really hard not to laugh and using a comparable voice)- Oh, have a good time.
A few moments later she came back through "carrying" her turkey and I couldn't restrain myself.
Me: Did your turkey live?
Princess: (still using her "princess" vooice) Yes. But I'm going to go throw this rock at it and kill it. Then I will cook it for us to eat.
Maybe next I should teach her that you should pluck your imaginary turkeys before putting them in the imaginary oven.

Castles in the Sky
Yes yes. I know. I've been slacking on the blog front. In my own defense, we really haven't been home much the last month. We took a trip to Oregon, one to Idaho and while Aaron had a business trip in Chicago, the kids and I went to my sisters house. But I have several stories I've been stockpiling so I'll try and catch up over the next little while.
Yesterday while I was back in my room my two big kids decided to make a castle. I could here them anxiously pulling out chairs, tipping over barstools and getting out the blankets. It was all fine and dandy until I heard one of them pipe up with "Hurry hurry, we have to keep out the democrats!" Hmm think we could send them to build some castles in D.C.?
